Despacito was a track from the year 2017 made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed and downloaded song in the world within six months. In 2017, the song Despacito, a mixture of pop music with reggaeton has not just brought fresh focus to reggaeton, but also sparked interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs mainly in Spanish in 2016, compared to just two songs in 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish tracks made the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish-language version in 2017 and soon after famous artists started working together with reggaeton groups. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018) and Madonna worked on Medellin with Maluma (2019). In 2020, several Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the advancing of their genre to the mainstream. Yet, a young generation like Rauw Alejandro was keen to continue the evolution. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music and other genres.
